The first University web based radio station started in 1999, when St Francis University in Nova Scotia started streaming across the web. It is still running today locally and externally. Australian Catholic University has always looked for interesting and innovative ways to communicate and connect with our student population.  Staff member, Ian Kershaw, (Blackboard, St Pats) came up with the idea to create a link between the campuses by creating a Virtual Common Room.  Initially, Andrew Beiers, Ian Kershaw, Shawn Walker and Eric Robinson put forward a proposal to develop the radio station.  The Vice- Chancellor, Professor Peter Sheehan AO gave support to this idea by funding this exciting initiative in late 2006.

The name, logo and jingle for the Radio Station were all developed by students of ACU.  The technical aspects of this radio station are being handled by Robert Irving's IT team on each campus.

Key people involved in technical setup the Internet radio station at ACU include John Dixon, Jacob Booth, Evan Wills, Paul Hudson, Jon Morecroft, Adam Graham and Paul Campbell.

From 2008 to 2009, Program Director, Nigel Munro-Wallis brought new expertise and experience to "Wired" in broadcasting and production from his time at ABC radio.
