Special Consideration

Due to serious personal circumstances beyond your control? (See Grounds for special consideration )

  • Not able to get an assignment in on time and have missed the extension request date;
  • Not able to get multiple assignments or assessments submitted;
  • Not able to sit an exam and have missed the deferment request date;
  • Needing to defer multiple exams;
  • Not able to continue with study and missed the HECS census date and withdrawal date. Please refer to Important dates and Recredit of Learning entitlement as well.

Complete an Application for Special Consideration

You will need to provide evidence of your circumstances and how they have impacted on your ability to study. These are your options:

  1. Ask your doctor or counsellor or any other professional who is aware of your circumstances to complete the professional authority part of this form. And/or;
  2. Complete a statutory declaration yourself outlining the following information:
    • Your circumstances or issues;
    • Their impact on your ability to study;
    • Their duration confirming why you could not meet university time frames. And/or;
  3. If you are already seeing an ACU Counsellor and they are aware of the serious nature of your circumstances they can support your request.

Read the form carefully to understand who to submit the form to, for approval.

Do you want consideration for the following e.g. tutorial times, prac placements etc? Speak to your lecturer in charge or course co-ordinator. You can explain your circumstances to your lecturer.

IMPORTANT: You do not need to speak to a counsellor unless you would like counselling support.

During busy periods of the semester you may have to wait up to a week to get an appointment with a counsellor.
