Eligibility for HECS-HELP Assistance

HECS-HELP is a government-sponsored loan which is available to assist students who:

  • are enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place.
  • have Australian citizenship, or
  • hold a Permanent Humanitarian Visa and will reside in Australia for the duration of their study.

Government Requirement

It is a government requirement that all students (even if you are not eligible, or, do not want to request HECS-HELP) must submit a Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form on or before the census date for the first study period you are enrolled in. This form is made available to ACU students as a step in the enrolment process and if you fail to submit it by the census date your enrolment will be cancelled.

Students who are New Zealand citizens or hold a Permanent Resident Visa (other than a Permanent Humanitarian Visa) are not eligible for HECS-HELP and must pay the total amount of their student contribution up-front.
