Rural placements
You are strongly encouraged to undertake at least one rural placement during your course (preferably in 3rd Year). It may improve your employment opportunities after your course finishes, testifying to the fact that you are flexible and capable of performing well in a variety of settings. If you have the possibility to live with relatives or organise accommodation with colleagues in an area outside the Brisbane metropolitan area and are willing to do a placement in a school there, please contact your PEP Administration Officer.
Testimonials
“The time that I spent on my Practicum in the rural town of Monto was most enjoyable. I had never lived away from Brisbane for more than two weeks and living in an area where I had no familiarities such as friends and family was a big change. The opportunity to teach in a rural school was very beneficial as it gave me an insight into what life would be like if I ever got a job in a rural town. I would encourage any peers who could organise a rural practicum to do so because the experience is priceless.” – Robert Yeo
“My six weeks in Murgon was one of the greatest experiences during my Uni life! I would recommend for everyone to complete a placement in a rural school as it has opened my eyes to the opportunities that teaching holds. During my time I was able to understand and experience Aboriginal culture eating traditional damper with Echidna! I embraced every opportunity out there, had the time of my life and I know that I am a better teacher today because of my time at Murgon.” – Cassandra Draheim
